Publishing an Academic Paper

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

I was thrilled to have had my first academic paper published this year in the Journal of Feminist Scholarship. It was all thanks to my wonderful tutor Helen that I even found out about this amazing opportunity as she had shared their Open Call for papers with students. I knew I wanted to be involved but wasn't quite sure what to write, then Helen suggested that I should submit an essay I had written for her Contextual Studies class the year before. Naturally, I felt anxious about putting my work (and myself) out there. Luckily, it wasn't long until I heard back and found out that my paper Female Representation in the Natural and Digital Worlds: A Feminist Millennial Perspective had been accepted. I was so fortunate that the JFS editors embraced it with open arms and were interested in my angle on feminism. Having this piece of writing published has given me a boost of confidence and made me feel like I've made a real contribution to a field that I'm so interested in. A field that I now want to keep contributing to. Please read my paper for free here, I'd love to hear your thoughts! LMK
