Poem: Dear Dairy

‘Dear Dairy’ By Lauren-Marie Kennedy

Dear Dairy,

no I do not miss you

because you are without a doubt

a feminist issue.

I called myself a feminist

but did not extend

the idea of equality

to the girls

on the other end

of the Species Spectrum

with devices they fit to their babies’ septum

designed to ‘wean’ them off their own mother’s milk.

“It’s natural,

it’s healthy,

it’ll give you strong bones.”

In fact,

it’s full of blood, puss, faeces, and hormones.

“But farmers love their animals”

I’m sure you’ve been told,

yet they tear children from their mothers

at just a day old!?

Not to mention the health problems

swimming round in your cereal bowl

heart disease, acne, diabetes,

cancers, and high cholesterol.

I can’t help but wonder

why we make excuses for this violation

call the brutal sexual assault

‘Artificial Insemination’

and the Laughing Cow does not laugh anymore

when she’s considered ‘spent’

when her teats are red, raw, and sore.

This abuse only continues

because people pay for it to happen

but there is an alternative world,

Just Imagine

I’ve been there, I’ve seen it,

I live there now

where milk comes from plants

and not the tits of a cow

it’s called being Vegan

and it’s so easy to do.

Dear Dairy,

you are fucking scary

and I refuse to fund you!!
